O'Donnell tribute match
MEMBERS of Motherwell's Scottish Cup winning team of 1991 will get together later this month for a special benefit match in tribute to former team-mate Phil O'Donnell.
They will take on a members of Celtic's 1998 championship-winning side in the game at Celtic Park on Sunday, May 25, with proceeds going to the family of the former Well skipper and a number of charitable causes.
O'Donnell played with both sides and Celtic legend Henrik Larsson is among the players who have agreed to take part along with Well greats such as Stevie Kirk, Dougie Arnott, Tom Boyd, Jim Griffin, Chris McCart and Craig Paterson.
The two teams' respective managers will also return for the match with Tommy McLean taking charge of the Motherwell side and Wim Jansen in the Celtic dugout.
Motherwell chief executive Ian Stillie said: "We felt this is one of the most appropriate ways in which to remember and honour Phil.
"The match will involve players who knew Phil personally and will clearly be an emotional occasion. It will also be an opportunity for supporters of any team to pay their respects to a man who was taken at a young age in such tragic circumstances. "
