THE men and women of Motherwell are being challenged to get out in to the great outdoors and take part in Run 10k for Cancer Research UK.
Run 10k is open for entries at www.run10k.org/local and it has been confirmed that the event will return for the second successive year to Strathclyde Country Park on Sunday, October 26.

Helen Webster, Run 10k organiser for Strathclyde said: "Cancer affects so many people and joining the Strathclyde Country Park 10k is a great way to support them by raising money for Cancer Research UK's work to find new ways of treating, curing and preventing the disease."

Run 10k for Cancer Research UK, supported by Tesco, is a series of 41 events held in stunning and unique locations throughout the UK this autumn. This year Cancer Research UK is hoping that 50,000 men and women will come together to raise just over £5 million to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer.

The Strathclyde Country Park 10k event will see 2,300 people taking part to raise more than £133,000. Running around the pretty and tranquil parkland surrounding Strathclyde Loch, the course is flat, and is an excellent run for novices taking on one of their first 10K events, or more experienced runners looking for a good time.

Cancer Research UK supports many scientists across Scotland. Much of this research is taking place at the Cancer Research UK Beatson Laboratories in Glasgow, where researchers are leading ground-breaking studies into all aspects of cancer biology and conducting a range of clinical trials.

Helen said: "I hope that the people of Motherwell rise to the challenge of taking part in Run 10k. It is the perfect opportunity to get into the great outdoors and raise money to help beat cancer. We need local people to take part and raise money to help us continue our life-saving work. This is why we're urging people in the Strathclyde area to come and join us.

"Running 10k is an achievable challenge for everyone with some training. Why don't you challenge your friends and family to take part with you?"

If you were inspired by the Flora London Marathon at the weekend, but don't feel ready for the full 26.2 miles yet, Run 10k is the perfect event for you. Or you could even use Run 10k to kick start your marathon training.
