ONE of the racing highlights of Hamilton Park's season, the £35,000 John Smith's Scottish Stewards' Cup, takes place on Friday, July 18 at the John Smith's Fair Friday meeting as the track hosts two fixtures on consecutive days.
The action begins on Thursday, July 17 at the Daily Record Punter's Club Day where a panel of tipsters will offer their selections for both that day and Friday's cards.
The fixture also remembers well known personalities in Scottish racing, the
late Bill and David McHarg and Arthur and Dorothy Balding, all of whom will be represented on the day by their surviving families.
Tomorrow night sees the hugely popular John Smith's Fair Friday meeting at Hamilton Park with more than £70,000 of prize-money being contested by a high-quality field.
The big race is the John Smith's Scottish Stewards' Cup, a six-furlong Class 2 Handicap with a 20lb weight range for horses rated between 86-105.
Clerk of the course Hazel Peplinski said: "This is a significantly stronger field in terms of the depth of quality than in previous runnings and the executive are hoping that many of these hold their ground at declaration stage.
"Last year's winner Knot in Wood is entered again and yet has seven rated above him, demonstrating again the potential of this year's line up."
The double header kicks off when the gates open at 12.20pm today with the first race at 2.20pm.
Champion Jockey Seb Sanders is the star draw with three rides for three different trainers, while members of the Scottish Racing Punters' Club receive a discount on their admission to this afternoon meet and there is the opportunity for new members to join.
Then John Smith's Fair Friday, the penultimate Super Six fixture at Hamilton Park this season, begins with a first race time of 6.25pm with gates opening two hours earlier. The Rhythm Kings will play live music throughout the meeting.
