MOTHERWELL cult hero Sieb Dijkstra has signed up to play in Dougie Arnott's testimonial in September when a Motherwell select will take on an Old Firm select in honour of the former Fir Park striker.
The Dutch keeper signed for Motherwell in the summer of 1991 from Roda JC in his homeland and played 80 games before leaving to join QPR in 1994.

He is looking forward to playing at Fir Park in a Well shirt for the first time since leaving the clu
b.

Dijkstra said: "It was great to play in front of 60,000 people again in the Phil O'Donnell tribute game at Celtic Park and especially the Motherwell fans. Playing at Fir Park in September will be even more special for me."

The popular Dutchman was keen to play in former team mate Arnott's testimonial due to the respect he had for the striker during his spell at Fir Park.

Dijkstra said: "Dougie was a role model professional who looked after himself and still does.

"He was a player I think every defender dreaded because of his quickness and sharpness in the box. He really was a handful for every defender.

"I remember Dougie scoring the winner against Falkirk in the last game of season 1992-1993, the goal that kept us in the Premier League.

"Also in the game after Fergus McCann took charge at Celtic, Dougie scored the only goal to silence the crowd at Parkhead."

The testimonial game on Thursday, September 11, will see a Motherwell select, including Tom Boyd, Andy Walker and four Well fans, face an Old Firm combine at Fir Park.
