COUNCIL tenants in North Lanarkshire are being invited to help the local authority to develop its service.

Some 16,000 tenants will receive a copy of the Tenants Survey for 2008 and each survey returned with the tenant's name and address will be entered into a prize draw to win £200, £100 and £50 of home improvement vouchers.

The council wants to find out how tenants think it can improve and develop the services that are important to them; where there is good practice so that this can be put in place in other areas; and where there are problems in providing and delivering services so that these can be resolved.

Tenants will be asked if they have used housing services this year; what they thought of these, how satisfied they are with particular services such as customer service, First Stop Shops and community wardens, how satisfied they are with the condition of the neighbourhood or estate in which they live, and do they think that the council's rent levels are affordable.

Mary Castles who is Executive Director of housing and social work services, explained: "We regularly take the opportunity to consult with all our tenants and this survey is just one of the ways we encourage tenant participation.

"It's really important for us, as Scotland's largest local authority landlord, to hear from our tenants. Through our Tenant Participation Strategy this council gives a commitment to survey its tenants to allow us to evaluate customer satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.

"In addition, the recent Best Value Audit of the council highlighted tenant participation in North Lanarkshire as 'providing the most consistent and coherent approach to active community engagement' and this is something we will continue to build on.

"Please return your completed survey, free of charge to the council and let us use your views to help us plan, develop and deliver our housing services."
