JOBS at Bellshill's Scot Trout fish processing plant have been saved after the sale of the struggling business to a subsidiary of Dawnfresh Seafoods in nearby Uddingston.

Administrators were called in last month after Scot Trout was hit by tough trading conditions.

However, the quick sale of the company means a total of 490 jobs have been saved.

As well as its plant in Bellshill, Scot Trout has a fish farming business and also operates processing plants in Arbroath and Grantown-on-Spey.

The group had a turnover of £43 million for the year ending October 31, but tough trading conditions in the fish processing sector forced the directors to place the companies into administration.

The business has been sold to STT Realisations Limited, a subsidiary of Dawnfresh.

Blair Nimmo, joint administrator, said: "We are pleased to have concluded a quick sale which will secure 490 jobs within the group.

"The sale will also ensure that existing customers and suppliers will be continue to be serviced as normal."
