Lanarkshire leads the way in songwriting

LANARKSHIRE has been revealed as Scotland's hotspot for songwriting talent.
Membership figures released by the Performing Right Society, the organisation responsible for collecting and distributing music royalties to composers, songwriters and publishers, reveal the county is top of the Scottish league for new songwriting talent.
The figures are calculated using the number of new members who have joined the PRS over the last year. Nearly 100 Lanarkshire-based songwriters have joined since May 1, 2007, the highest number of new members from any Scottish region.
The society's membership development manager Myles Keller said: "Over the last year, PRS membership has swelled to over 60,000 members, helped in part by the significant number of Lanarkshire-based songwriters who have joined our ranks.
"We are delighted to be able to ensure these songwriters are getting paid every time a piece of their work is broadcast or performed in public."
