THE Congolese music group 'Jambo' have made a film depicting a new life in Scotland.
The group is made up of 20 young people, who were resettled in Motherwell in January 2007, through the Gateway Protection Programme.
Since their arrival in Motherwell, one of the organisations who have been working with them is Reeltime Music in N
ewarthill where they got the chance to learn new instruments and write a song titled 'We Are Not Alone'.
They scripted and directed a short film themselves to accompany their song, depicting a new life in Scotland. The film focuses on two fictional characters and describes their actions – one fortunate and the other not so fortunate.
The group got the chance to showcase their talent in Glasgow as part of last month's Refugee Week Scotland, which is co-ordinated by the Scottish Refugee Council as part of a UK-wide festival to celebrate diversity and raise awareness of refugee issues.
The first event 'One Scotland, Many Voices' was an evening of short films and live performance celebrating the creative talent and many voices in Scotland's asylum and refugee communities including Jambo who were also given the opportunity to show their film.
Jambo also performed 'We Are Not Alone' live at the Tron Theatre, sharing the stage with young people from across Glasgow.
